FAQ
None of these have been asked but I'll answer them anyway
Q: What is this website?
A: Whatever I want it to be! It's a place full of stuff and things, but it'll mostly be entirely retro themed, full of retro reviews and ideas and creations from the viewpoint of someone who was born way after these things.
Q: Why did you make it?
A: I want to introduce new eyes to the systems, games and media that I enjoy by talking about it, as well as give a new perspective on retro hardware and software as the things I enjoy the most are from before 1995, which is when I was made!
Also, I really wanted my own space on the web, and want to make something that isn't just another corporately bland, clean and clinical modern website, instead contributing a bit more personality to the net.
Q: Why do you like old things so much?
A: Lately (over the last decade or so) there has been a surprising lack of diversity and variety in gaming and technology. Nobody's taking risks, and when they do, those risks are usually unnoticed.
Hardware looks bland and boring (one of the new consoles is literally a boring solid box!) and popular gaming is at an all time low in terms of gameplay, originality and functionality, and microtransactions are rife in big budget games which are designed to bleed a player dry rather than stimulate the imagination or provide a fun experience. Also, the soundtracks tend to suck.
Consoles are manufactured by just three companies, and every company is getting acquired by or merged with every other company. The hardware is creating a larger gap between user and machine every year. Operating systems are bloated and developers have forgotten what compression is.
Old computers are easy to work with, do what you tell them to do, are fun to code for, the games are usually fun titles with addicting gameplay and no extra strings or catches, and they do not require 70 gigabytes of space! Also, restrictions tend to breed creativity. There are a whole host of other reasons but this answer is SO LONG already.
